JORDAN | An unreal landscape. / by Jared Paisley

Jordan has to be one of my favourite places to film and photograph, and in particular the Wadi Rum desert.

I was recently on assignment in Jordan and Wadi Rum was one of our locations. After hearing this my eyes lit up, and the creative anticipation started building, something that I’ve been battling to get going lately. Sometimes all it takes to get you excited to shoot again is an incredible landscape. Maybe it’s because it makes it too easy? Everywhere you point it’s just a beautiful frame, boosting your confidence big time.

It’s such a unique landscape that I haven’t seen anywhere else in the world. The massive rock that rises abruptly out of the desert sand looking as if it’s been molten, but the temperatures in the winter are below freezing. Both of my experiences in this desert have involved camping there, and the silence and stillness at night is so calming and overwhelming, I definitely think this adds to my love of the place.

This was only the second time I’ve been to Wadi Rum, and the first time to Wadi Araba desert. This trip definitely reaffirmed my love for the place though. I’ll let the photos do the rest of the convincing as I’m still working out this writing thing.
