In June of 2019, I was commissioned by Fell+Company to film a few short promotional pieces for a safari camp company in Tanzania. This was the first project I’ve taken on as lead creative. There were many times I felt in over my head, but thanks to the support & trust of the Fell+Co team, it all came together in the end. See below for the film, and a few extra photos.
I’ll be honest, the experience was something else. Wildlife like I have never seen in my life; lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, jackals, buffalo, hippo, even cheetahs in our car. I definitely wasn’t present enough through it all though, I spent most of the time panicking that I was getting what we needed for the edit, constantly working out what we needed more of, or prioritising certain sightings over others, “we’ve seen tonnes of cheetahs, lets leave these and try and spot something different!“ Not a phrase I ever expected to have to use.
The creative freedom that was allowed in this particular brand film was quite refreshing. Sure, there was an extensive shot list that needed to be checked off for a variety of other content, and that is what kept us pretty preoccupied for most of the shoot. What I was most happy with, was being able to come back into the edit suite and shape something creative, different from what I am used to creating, and have a team of people that were invested in getting it to be the best it could be.
Okay, enough waffling for now, the rest of this post will be some images from our time in Tanzania.
